Coaches

La Costa Canyon’s success as an elite team in the region is due to the dedication and expertise of  its top-notch coaching staff.

Mavericks Head Coach Dwayne Buth graduated from Mount Miguel High School, where he was a California State Champion. He went to California State University – Fullerton, where he was a two-time All Pac-10 wrestler and a two-time National Qualifier.

Before coming to La Costa Canyon in 1996, Coach Buth coached at Troy High School in Orange County.

Assistant Coach Dan Ramirez placed in the California State Championships as a high school wrestler and also went on to wrestle at  California State University – Fullerton. He placed multiple times at Open Nationals, where he was an All American. He has been coaching at the high school level since 1992, and at La Costa Canyon since 2006.

Assistant Coach and Head Freshman Coach Tom Hernandez was formerly the head coach at San Dieguito Academy, and came to La Costa Canyon in 2007.

Assistant Coach Don Williams has been involved with wrestling at LCC for 12 years and brings a wealth of expertise.

Assistant Coach Ryan Williams is one of the most accomplished wrestlers in La Costa Canyon history. He was the first La Costa Canyon wrestler to capture a California State Championship, and was also a four-time All-League and All-CIF Champion. He placed sixth at Senior Nationals and is a two-time high school All American.
