La Costa Canyon’s success as an elite team in the region is due to the dedication and expertise of  its top-notch coaching staff.

Mavericks Head Coach Dwayne Buth graduated from Mount Miguel High School, where he was a California State Champion. He went to California State University – Fullerton, where he was a two-time All Pac-10 wrestler and a two-time National Qualifier.
Before coming to La Costa Canyon in 1996, Coach Buth coached at Troy High School in Orange County.

Assistant Coach Duayne Guile started wrestling at 10 years old/5th grade. He wrestled for The Pound, Olive Peirce Middle School, Ramona High School, Palomar College, Chico State. He is 3x all league, 3x all CIF. He was Co-Head Coach at Ramona High School for 8 years. He coached Ramona to 6 league titles, 2012 CIF Team Championship, 2011 Masters Team Runner-Up.
He was Head Coach at Olive Peirce Middle School (OPMS)for 5 years, In 2012, OPMS team placed 3rd at state, and was recognized by state senator Joel Anderson. Duayne was named San Diego County Coach of the Year in 2011. He has been LCC Assistant Wrestling Coach for 2 years.
Coach Duayne graduated from Ramona High in 2004, then Palomar in 2007. He went on to graduate from Chico State in 2010 with a Bachelors in Social Science. He then obtained his teaching credential in 2015. Currently, he is teaching High School History at Mountain Valley Academy in Ramona, Ca.

Assistant Coach Daniel Ramirez has a BA in Business with a concentration in Finance from Cal State Fullerton (’95)
and is a Business Owner and real estate investor. His company is Commission Funding Solutions. As for Wrestling, he is 2X Greco All American, 2X Freestyle All American, U.S. Open All American, Olympic Festival Bronze (’92) and Gold (’93) medalist. He has been coaching for 25 years!!
He has been been married for 1 and a half years (Stephanie – who’s father and brother both wrestled) and has a 9 month old baby boy named Kayo.
His hobbies include hanging out with the California Wrestling Coach of the Year from time to time, playing Texas Hold ’em on his downtime. He coaches 2 fantasy football teams. He also mentor (‘really just pass along what I’ve learned’) several young adults on business ownership and real estate investing. Lastly, and most importantly, He has also been attending theMovement church for the past 12 years.
