Mavericks Win La Costa Canyon Classic
The La Costa Canyon High Mavericks won their own tournament Dec. 7 and 8, sending six wrestlers into the finals, with senior Connor Anderson and junior Ian Baker emerging as tourney champions at 170 and 180 pounds respectively. As a team the Mavericks came out on top over the 36 other schools who traveled to LCC for the La Costa Canyon Classic, also known as the Jimmy Hamada Tournament. Maverick Ian Baker had a break-out season as a sophomore in 2011-12, capturing: Second place in the San Diego Division II CIF Tournament Second place in the Masters Tournament First place at Frosh/Soph State As well as imposing his will upon opponents throughout the Avocado League West and in other tournaments throughout the season. He was also the only Maverick named to the San Diego Union's All-San Diego Section team.
